FARMVILLE, Virginia – Longwood men’s basketball is coming off an impressive 3-0 week and its best start in Lancer history, and as a sophomore Justin Hill helped pave the way. The Houston native was present on the court both offensively and defensively and was named co-Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Hill averaged 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and five assists while leading the Lancers to a 3-0 week, including a big conference win over the second-ranked Big South team in Winthrop. Hill added six interceptions during the week and shot .422 (19-41) from the floor and .880 (22-25) from the free throw line.

Hill’s best effort came against Winthrop on Saturday in the Deep South’s top two team showdown. Hill’s career-best 29 points led the Lancers’ offense. In front of a sold-out crowd, Hill was dangerous on the perimeter, hitting three from long range and perfect from the free-throw line on 12 attempts. Hill had seven assists, the second most of the season, and had five rebounds. Defensively, Hill added four interceptions to his already packed stat sheet.

At Hampton last Monday, Hill was relentless in the paint, scoring 20 points and adding four assists to help continue Longwood’s undefeated conference start. That tally saw Hill score 20 points in back-to-back contests.

Against North Carolina A&T on Wednesday night, Hill’s 15-point effort helped fuel a second half that saw the Lancers come back after being down 12 points. Hill added five rebounds, six assists and a block to help the Lancers claim victory at Willett Hall against the Aggies.

Longwood leads the Big South and is the only remaining undefeated team. At 15-5 overall and 12-1 at home, the Lancers are the only undefeated team in Big South play. The Lancers boast the best offense (79.0 ppg) and third-best defense (65.1 ppg allowed) while leading the league in rebounds and assists. Justin Hill leads the team in points and has had at least 20 points four times in seven conference games. His 18.4 points per game in the conference are third in the league, and he’s second in the league with 4.1 assists per game.

Hill became the third Lancer to win the weekly Big South honor this season after his teammates Isaiah Wilkins won on January 17and and Leslie Nkereuwem earned the honor on November 22.
