Statistics time. If you see me in Knoxville in these plaid overalls, watch your stuff. When else do you get to wear them? If you’re in Knoxville, but not The Hill at 1:30, you’re dead to me. It’s the Barstool CFB Show, plus Macrodosing, plus Will Compton.

Why would you miss it? David Blattman says “It’s gonna be fun,” and that’s a direct quote. Anyway, stat time:

One of the key strategies for successful investing is to build a well-diversified and balanced portfolio of 25-30 stocks and hold them for the long term. Still, every investor has to start somewhere, and having the funds for so many stocks at once isn’t necessarily practical.

If I had to start over today, I would look for a company with a solid history of growth, the ability to weather an economic storm, and a history of listening to its shareholders. That’s why I think Apple (AAPL -2.03%) is an excellent choice.

The story in a nutshell

Apple is one of the most successful consumer product companies in the world, thanks to a number of groundbreaking products that have become household names. Far from being a one-trick pony, Apple continues to innovate with its existing products while searching for the “next big thing.” The company is undoubtedly the most successful smartphone maker on the market, but is augmenting that success with a wide range of consumer products and a growing battery of services.

Often imitated but never replicated, Apple has an impressive market share with many of its products. This has resulted in a fortress-like balance sheet, while allowing for generous returns to shareholders. The company’s products are among the most recognizable and beloved in the world, which should help the company continue to generate above-market returns for years to come.

Built on the iconic iPhone

The 800-pound gorilla in the room is the iPhone. While it wasn’t Apple’s first successful product (I’m looking at you, iPod), it was the one that catapulted Apple to its current level of fame and fortune.

The iPhone has the largest market share of any smartphone in the United States and is the world’s No. 2 (sometimes occupying the top spot). There are currently 1 billion active iPhones in use worldwide, and that number continues to grow.

Apple recently launched the new iPhone 14, which has all the makings of another incredibly successful device. Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives points to long and growing wait times for shipment, as some models have delivery dates of four to six weeks. This indicates strong demand for the latest version of the company’s flagship device. Additionally, Ives estimates that approximately 240 million iPhone users have not upgraded their phones in the past 3 1/2 years, leading to strong pent-up demand even in the face of economic headwinds. .

It’s worth noting that the iPhone is responsible for the lion’s share of Apple’s sales, generating nearly 54% of revenue in the first nine months of fiscal 2022 (ending June 25). This could pose a risk if users ever fall in love with the iPhone.

Much more than the iPhone

Beyond the iPhone, Apple offers a growing list of products and services that generate nearly half of the company’s sales. Mac, the Apple computer that started it all, has a strong and loyal customer base responsible for 15% of all personal computer shipments in the United States. The iPad, the company’s laptop, is the market leader and controls 31% of the global tablet market.

Similarly, the Apple Watch dominates the market, with a 36% market share, selling more than three times as many smartwatches as its closest competitor. The tech titan is also an undisputed leader in the headphone market, with nearly 50% of consumers in the US using Apple’s AirPods or Beats headphones.

It all started with the App Store and iTunes, but Apple’s service offerings are vast and growing. The list includes award-winning programming on Apple TV+, high-res audio on Apple Music, and secure payments with Apple Wallet. There are also mobile games on Apple Arcade, news on Apple News+, workouts on Apple Fitness+, digital storage on iCloud, and more. Services has been among Apple’s fastest growing segments in recent years, up nearly 18% year over year in the first nine months of fiscal 2022.

This large and growing list of category-leading products and services provides a level of security that Apple will continue to deliver steady results for years to come.

Strong shareholder returns

Apple ranks high on the list of shareholder-friendly companies, which benefits investors in more ways than one.

First, it started paying a dividend again in 2012, and since then it has built up an outstanding track record. What started as a meager payout of $0.095 adjusted for payouts has jumped 143% in just 10 years. While its yield is still a relatively low 0.6%, that’s a function of growth in Apple’s stock price, which has gained more than 500% over the past decade even after the impact of the recent market bearish. Plus, the company only uses 15% of its profits to fund the payout, so there’s plenty more where that came from.

Then there’s the generous stock buyback program. The company has repurchased shares over the past decade, retiring nearly 39% of its outstanding shares. This means that each shareholder gets an increasing slice of the apple pie.

Data by Y charts.

A port in the storm

Finally, Apple’s consistently strong results and fortress-shaped balance sheet provide investors with a safe harbor in the event of an economic storm. For the first nine months of fiscal 2022, Apple’s revenue of $304 billion was up 8% year over year, while its earnings per share of 4.86 dollars increased by 10%. This is a remarkable achievement, especially given the size of the company and the growing economic headwinds it has faced.

But don’t worry: even if macroeconomic conditions worsen, Apple has the resources to weather the storm. The company has about $60 billion of net cash on its balance sheet, which would allow it to fare well during tough times.

For these reasons and more, Apple is the stock I would buy if I could only buy one.

Understand Microsoft’s grand vision for building the next generation of apps https://bayd.info/understand-microsofts-grand-vision-for-building-the-next-generation-of-apps/ Tue, 20 Sep 2022 12:10:01 +0000 https://bayd.info/understand-microsofts-grand-vision-for-building-the-next-generation-of-apps/ Over the past two years, Microsoft has introduced a host of new tools and technologies aimed at helping developers, including those at Microsoft, build “the next generation of apps.” Microsoft has something for every app maker, from non-professional “citizen” developers to expert and experienced developers. Over the past two years, Microsoft has introduced a host of new tools and technologies aimed at helping developers, including those at Microsoft, build “the next generation of apps.” Microsoft has something for every app maker, from non-professional “citizen” developers to expert and experienced developers. And executives believe these types of apps, many of them, are exactly what customers need today, especially in the age of hybrid working. But is there an overarching strategy that ties everything together?

We got a glimpse of what Microsoft was trying to do from this Microsoft marketing slide from a few years ago:

Credit: Microsoft

And here is the new version centered on Microsoft Cloud:

collaborative applications2022.png

Credit: Microsoft

Microsoft has variously described a concept called “collaborative applications”. Collaborative apps, when Microsoft executives first used the term, seemed to be apps designed for use in Teams and acquired from the Teams app store.

Now, Microsoft executives are using “collaborative apps” in a much broader way: it can be apps in Teams or Teams components in your apps. But there is even more. Given Microsoft’s intention to more closely tie its Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365 franchises, “collaborative apps” also apply to Dynamics 365. Collaborative apps can be apps in Dynamics or Dynamics components in your apps.

How are developers and users supposed to make sense of this evolving vision of collaborative applications? Before the kick-off of the first annual Microsoft Power Platform conference On September 20, I had the opportunity to speak with Jeff Teper, the new President of Collaborative Applications and Platforms, and Charles Lamanna, Vice President of Enterprise Applications and Platforms.

At today’s conference, Teper’s keynote is titled “Building Collaborative Apps with Microsoft 365 + Power Platform.” As the event kicked off, Microsoft announced a new Power Up Skills Program to help individuals enter the low-code space through a three-month guided program; Maps (built on the Adaptive Map Framework) for Power Apps; and co-authoring in Power Apps to simultaneously edit applications in real time using an Office-like experience. The new maps (coming “soon” in public preview) and the ability to co-create (coming next month in public preview) are yet more pieces of the collaborative app puzzle.

Collaborative applications: the lightning pitch

A collaborative application, in its simplest form, “is an application that helps people work together on a business process,” Teper said. A business process can be anything from submitting a timesheet to filling out a form (in addition to much more involved and advanced interactions).

Developers can use whatever tools they’re comfortable with to write a collaborative application. Low-code tools from the Power Platform family are great, as are Visual Studio, TypeScript, JavaScript, and other professional development options. And they can connect to data sources from Microsoft and its partners and competitors using the Microsoft Graph programming interface, the Dataverse common data service, and Azure data. Microsoft Fluid Framework and Loop synchronization components, adaptive cards, custom connectors, and Azure communication services — the chat and meeting features Microsoft uses in Teams — are also other optional items available to developers. Collaborative apps can appear in Teams, Office, Dynamics, and/or custom line-of-business apps.

It’s Power Platform, which is Microsoft’s collection of low-code tools that aim to turn business users into developers, is at the heart of the evolving vision for collaborative applications. (Microsoft officials position Power Platform as key to its Microsoft Cloud vision and strategy, too.)

“We’re not inventing our own development tool for Office or Microsoft 365. We’re betting on the Power Platform,” Teper said.

At the Microsoft Build conference earlier this year, officials announced the ability to create Loop components by updating adaptive cards. (Adaptive Cards are an open card interchange format allowing developers to exchange UI content in a common and consistent way.) Developers can transform adaptive cards into loop components or create new loop components based on adaptive maps. These loop components based on adaptive cards can be highlighted using Microsoft’s Context IQ editor and artificial intelligence features. Today, Microsoft announced that Power Apps developers can create maps using Power Apps Designer and even take advantage of Power Fx integration. Developers can use the designer to create polls, collections data, surveys and other types of more advanced applications.

“But it’s not just about Power Platform inside Office,” Lamanna noted. “There is also Office inside Power Platform.”

And that’s where today’s announcement of co-authoring in Power App Studio fits in. This capability uses the same underlying infrastructure that enables co-creation/co-presence inside things like Word and PowerPoint, he noted. And at Build earlier this year, Microsoft unveiled collaboration controls in Power Apps, which lets developers drag and drop Microsoft 365 collaboration features like Teams chats, meetings, files, and tasks in custom apps created with Power Apps.

Microsoft is experimenting with these new app-building models on its own, Lamanna said. Viva Sales, the first “role-based” Viva app designed to help salespeople capture data and integrate it with Teams Outlook chats, calls and emails, is a flagship example of a collaborative app, it said. -he declares.

“We track what we tell customers,” Teper added. “The model we would say is to use the data in Microsoft 365, to use Office as a bit of a shell, but to use Power Platform to build the business processes. That’s how we built Viva Sales.”

Lamanna says Microsoft has learned the best way to build an app inside something like Teams. And “copy-pasting a browser-based app as an iframe in Teams”, while possible, isn’t the best option. A more interesting thing happens “when you take some sort of large monolithic web application and deconstruct it into many small workflows and micro-applications for Adaptive Cards”. By putting apps together this way, “engagement goes through the roof because that’s how people are used to responding to messages and emails,” he said.

Since all Microsoft paths today lead to the Microsoft Cloud, no definition would be complete without some insight into how the Cloud platform fits into the collaborative apps strategy and vision. Microsoft’s claim is that by building on top of the full Microsoft stack, developers and customers will get the built-in security and governance capabilities that come with it.

Teper’s call to action: “Go build collaborative apps with Power Platform and where it makes sense, integrate with Microsoft 365Teams, Office, etc. And you’ll get better apps that are easier to manage, faster.” “

MVP/Captain plays

Aaron Rodgers – QB, $15,900 (DK), $16,000 (FD)

Key statistics

  • Week 1 stats: 195 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, one interception.
  • 2022 DVOA Pass Offensive: -4.9% (22nd), per Football Outsiders.
  • 2021 Opposing Defense Pass DVOA: -33.1% (4th), per Football Outsiders.

We’ll start the slate with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers probably had the worst Week 1 he’s ever had in his career, struggling to make anything work in their offense and really feeling the loss of Davante Adams. I would hesitate to play against Rodgers after this performance, but he simply dominates the Bears. He’s thrown for 6,549 yards, 61 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions in 27 games against them in his career, and I expect him to rebound considerably tonight.

AJ Dillon – RB, $12,600 (DK), $9,000 (FD)

Key statistics

  • Week 1 stats: 10 attempts, 45 rushing yards, six targets, five receptions, 46 receiving yards.
  • Week 1 data: 62.5% attempt rate, 66.67% red zone attempt rate, 100% attempt rate < 5 yards line, 17.14% target rate, 16.67 % of target rate in the red zone.
  • Rush DVOA Offensive: 37.7% (5th), per Football Outsiders.
  • Opposing Defensive Rush DVOA: -2.3% (19th), per Football Outsiders

I’ve been stoned by AJ Dillon all off season, and tonight should be no different. We’re getting solid value here with Dillon being cheaper than Aaron Jones, although Dillon is seeing a higher attempt rate from all parts of the pitch, as well as a higher goal share in the passing game. Although I’m sure that will fluctuate throughout the season, but it’s imperative that we take advantage of the price difference now, especially on DraftKings.

Other Captains/MVPs: Aaron Jones, Justin Herbert, Packers D/ST

DFS Flexible Games

Justin Fields – QB, $10,200 (DK), $13,500 (FD)

Key statistics

  • Week 1 stats: 121 passing yards, two touchdowns, one interception, 11 carries, 28 yards.
  • 2022 DVOA Pass Offensive: -5.8% (23rd), per Football Outsiders.
  • 2021 Opposing Defense Pass DVOA: 34.1% (26th), per Football Outsiders.

Another guy I was high on all offseason was the Bears starting QB Justin Fields. Fields struggled with ugly conditions and a flooded field in Week 1 against the 49ers, but managed to pull through and lead his team to victory. While I don’t think the Bears as a team will have the same chance against a probably angry Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, I can see Fields using his legs as well as his arm to move the ball around the field, and I believe he’ll get a significant boost if the Packers are able to move up and he is able to pick up unnecessary time points with his legs.

Equanimeous St. Brown – WR, $5,800 (DK), $11,500 (FD)

Key statistics

  • Week 1 stats: Three targets, one reception, 18 receiving yards, one touchdown
  • Data for week 1: target rate of 17.65%, target red zone rate of 100%, an end zone target.
  • Individual matchup (vs. Rasul Douglas): 12% objectives per route, 100% capture rate, 0.16 Fantasy points per route traveled, per PFF.

I’m not necessarily to like anyone on the Bears offense tonight, but I don’t hate to try Equanimeous St. Brown as another value play. St. Brown caught one of Justin Fields’ two touchdowns on Sunday. While Darnell Mooney is likely to emerge as the number one option for Chicago, St. Brown appeared to be number two, mustering a similar target share on Sunday. He’ll be up against Rasul Douglas for a lot of his snaps tonight, and while I think Douglas is a good corner, he tends to get burnt deep. I’ll be looking for St. Brown to get behind Douglas and make some big plays tonight.

Other flexible options: Aaron Jones, David Montgomery, Sammy Watkins

DFS Value Sets

Christian Watson – WR, $4,600 (DK), $8,500 (FD)

Key statistics

  • Week 1 stats: Four targets, two receptions, 34 receiving yards.
  • Week 1 data: 11.43% target rate, 16.67% red zone target rate.
  • Individual match: N/A

Adding to Green Bay’s poor offensive performance last Sunday, Watson dropped a touchdown pass after getting behind his defenseman. This effectively killed Green Bay’s momentum as they struggled to do anything afterwards. Despite that, Watson showed great breakaway speed to get behind the corner, and we should take that as a positive here. It’s definitely a boom or bust game, but I’m optimistic that Watson will be looking to bounce back from his lackluster Week 1.

Green Bay Packers – D/ST, $4,400 (DK), $10,500 (FD)

Key statistics

  • Week 1 stats: One sack, zero interceptions, zero fumble recoveries.

I mentioned earlier that I’m not particularly high on anyone on the Chicago offense. With that, I’ll field a good chunk of Green Bay’s defense tonight. Although they had a relatively lackluster performance on Sunday, with Justin Jefferson tearing up their defense, they managed to hold Minnesota to just 23 points. The Bears’ offense isn’t nearly as explosive as Minnesota’s, and Green Bay’s defense should prove to be a solid value play.

Other value games: Mason Crosby, Dante Pettis, Cairo Santos

Enjoy your Sunday and good luck everyone!

Week 2 is here and the NFL season is finally underway. For a week, the Seattle Seahawks are at the top of the NFC West, and the AFC South went winless in Week 1 despite two of the teams playing each other. The NFL is truly back when it’s real storylines and not made up.

Due to a combination of bad weather, injuries, bad offenses, and good defenses, the score was down significantly from Week 1 of the 2021 season. NFL teams combined to score 673 points in 16 games, up from 768 points in Week 1 last year. As tradition dictates, defenses seem to be ahead of offenses to start the year.

At the start of the year, you need to rack up as many wins as possible while your team is still healthy and the bye weeks haven’t arrived yet. With that in mind, your quarterback games become even more important in analyzing which offenses are ready to succeed versus which still need a few weeks to warm up. Here are the three best and worst matchups for Sunday to consider when setting your roster.

Here Comes Trouble – QB vs. Pass Rush Matchups

Pittsburgh Steelers Defense Pass Rush vs. Mac Jones

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones ended his rookie year on a downward slope, and the rebound has yet to come for him or the team after their performance in Week 1. They lost by just 13 on the road to the Miami Dolphins, but it never seemed particularly close. Heading into their Week 2 match, Jones is struggling with a back injury that shouldn’t hold him back, but it will likely be limited.

On the other side of this game, he’ll face a Pittsburgh Steelers defense that made a revamped Cincinnati Bengals offensive line look like they haven’t played the football of their lives. Joe Burrow was sacked seven times in the day and he was pressured on 21.5% of his waivers. Even with TJ Watt out of lineup, this Pittsburgh group has the horses to harass Mac all day.

Verdict: Sit down

New York Giants Defense Pass Rush vs. Baker Mayfield

Well, Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield didn’t get the revenge he was hoping for in Week 1, and you could put a lot of the blame on him. Baker had just one touchdown the day Robbie Anderson got behind the Browns defense. Against that touchdown, he was sacked four times while under pressure on 21.9% of his dropbacks. He also had four fumbles on the day. Although he won all four of them, these ball safety issues can be a problem.

In Week 2, Carolina heads to the New York Giants, who for the first time in five years have a record above .500 after their upset win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. They did it thanks to Saquon Barkley in attack. with a defense that made Ryan Tannehill uncomfortable all day. While they only had one sack, they had four knockdowns and 11 presses for a whopping 31.4% pressure ratio. This Carolina offensive line is still under construction and the Giants can take advantage of it to attack Baker.

Verdict: Sit down

Baltimore Ravens Defense Pass Rush vs. Tua Tagovailoa

A bad shot by Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made headlines in Week 1, but he really performed better than this clip would have you believe. He went 23 of 33 for 270 yards and, had the game not been largely over, he could have gotten bigger numbers. Either way, despite the offensive line taking a step forward this offseason, it’s still a group that leaves more to be desired.

In Week 2, Tua will be dealing with a Baltimore front that seems to produce consistently year after year no matter who they plug into the lineup. In Week 1, they had three sacks against the New York Jets and they generated pressure on 24.2% of their opponent’s dropbacks. In addition, the Dolphins’ two starting tackles missed practice Wednesday. While Terron Armstead should play, there are no guarantees at this stage.

Verdict: Sit down

Easy Sunday Morning – QB vs Pass Rush Matchups

Jacksonville Jaguars Defense Pass Rush vs. Matt Ryan

The Matt Ryan era for the Indianapolis Colts didn’t get off to the best start. They scored just three points in three quarters and needed a 17-point comeback in the fourth quarter just to send the game into overtime. One thing that wasn’t really at fault in Week 1 was the offensive line. They gave up some pressure, but they were in the bottom half of the league in knockdowns allowed. They kept Ryan up more often than not.

The Colts are aiming for their first victory in Jacksonville since Sept. 21, 2014. Both of these teams have come a long way since then, and the Colts are looking to grab this division with other teams floundering. In Week 1, the Jaguars had just one sack from Carson Wentz, and they pressured him on just 8.9% of his backstops. That pass rush, despite high draft picks in recent years, still struggles to come after the quarterback.

Verdict: start them

Detroit Lions Defense Pass Rush vs. Carson Wentz

Because I’m actually recommending Carson Wentz, he’s going to forget how to play football and completely crumble. For now, I’m going to be optimistic. Despite two interceptions, he helped lead his team on a decisive drive for his fourth touchdown of the day from 300+ yards. The offensive line played a big part in this accomplishment, as they gave up just one sack and they allowed a pressure rate of just 8.9%, which was the second-best mark of the week behind the Buffalo Bills.

The Lions had a 25.6% pressure rating in Week 1, but that’s inflated by the low passing volume the Philadelphia Eagles were expected to make thanks to their large lead. This Lions defense is still very young and they have a long way to go before they strike fear into the hearts of opposing quarterbacks. Until then, most offensive lines should be up to speed to slow this group down.

Verdict: start them

Miami Dolphins Defense Pass Rush vs. Lamar Jackson

In Week 1, the Dolphins were playing against a Patriots offensive line that didn’t know how to get out of its own way, and they still only generated two sacks and pressure on 15.2% of Mac’s backstops . It wasn’t against a particularly mobile quarterback, but that didn’t matter. Their passing rush doesn’t have a ton of teeth on a weekly basis.

Now they face Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens where Lamar came out for a huge payday, and the Ravens are trying to prepare for a deep playoff run. Lamar was sacked twice in Week 1 but was under pressure on just 11.8% of snaps. They are still without Ronnie Stanley, despite training this week. Even though Stanley remains out, Jackson has the mobility to handle this passing rush.

Verdict: start them

The two biggest phone makers are both trying to change the way we interact with our phones, but in very different ways. Apple transforms iPhone software and how it works with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones. Samsungon the other hand, updates the physical form of the smartphone thanks to its range of foldables Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 14 Pro line during its Event “Far Out” last week, and one of its standout new features is a redesigned notch area called the dynamic island. It’s a pill-shaped cutout for the front-facing camera and Face ID sensors that Apple has also repurposed as a miniature secondary display to show notifications and other content.

At first glance, Apple’s Dynamic Island and Samsung’s foldable phones have little, if anything, in common. But the intent behind both is the same: to improve the way our phones display Surface apps and information.

iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island Explained

The dynamic island is essentially Apple’s answer to faster multitasking on the iPhone. While Android phone makers like Samsung support the ability to have multiple apps open on the screen at once, Apple instead uses the dynamic island to expand and contract to display contextual information. It can expand to display alerts and can change shape depending on the application.

For example, Dynamic Island can display the song you’re listening to even when you’re on the home screen. If you have a timer running at the same time, it will split the timer into its own bubble positioned next to the music playback information, so you can view both without having to switch between apps. Likewise, you can see step-by-step directions on the dynamic island without having to switch between apps. The same goes for sports scores.

Apple says Dynamic Island’s goal is to display information clearly without distracting you from the app you’re in. during the company’s keynote last Wednesday.

How Samsung’s foldables and Dynamic Island are similar

Samsung’s foldable phones and iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island are inherently different. But they both aim to change the way we interact with apps on our phones.

Samsung promoted the Z-Flip 4 Flex mode, for example, which splits compatible apps between the upper and lower parts of the screen when folded halfway. When opening the camera in Flex mode, the top half of the screen acts as the camera’s viewfinder while the bottom half displays controls such as the shutter button. You can also take photos and send preset replies in some messaging apps on the Z Flip 4 without opening the phone using its cover screen.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung’s book-shaped foldable is designed to provide more screen real estate in a device that still fits in your pocket. You can also open multiple apps on the Z Fold 4’s tablet-sized screen at once.

Lisa Eadicicco/CNET

The common thread between the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island, the Galaxy Z Flip, and the Galaxy Z Fold is that they’re all changing the way apps are displayed on our phone screens — with the end goal being to make apps more useful. Samsung’s Dynamic Island and foldables are designed to make our phones more adaptable to the situation. Apple’s new notch replacement pins certain app information to the top of your screen and morphs based on what you’re doing. Samsung’s foldables let you change the size and position of your phone – and the apps running on it – to suit different scenarios.

It’s too early to tell if either approach will have a significant impact on how we use our phones in the long run. Apple just announced the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max last week, and those phones won’t launch until September 16. Foldables have been widely available for about three years, but they still only represent a small portion of overall smartphone sales.

What is clear, however, is that both Apple and Samsung are trying to improve the way we absorb and manage the massive amount of information that passes through our phones every day. Now that phones have matured to the point where most updates seem incremental, it’s refreshing to see changes that actually feel different.

Republicans accuse Gov. Kathy Hochul’s supporters of ‘dirty tricks’ for sending voters pre-filled applications for mail-in ballots – with COVID-19 already verified as the reason for remote voting – in what appears to be a close race against Rep. Lee Zeldin ahead of the Nov. 8 election.

“No one should fill in that box but the voter who asks for it,” GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy said Monday of voter education.

“It is unconscionable and the height of dishonesty and hypocrisy for Democrats to use the guise of COVID while we gather at concerts,” he added of what he called “dirty tricks and deceptive schemes” allegedly used by Democrats.

Yet, it is legal in New York State for political parties or candidates to use publicly available registration records to complete absentee ballot applications for voters to sign and return to the New York Board of Elections. state, election law experts told the Post on Monday.

But Republicans allege their rivals are stretching the spirit, if not the letter of the law, by using letterhead in their outreach materials that appears to mimic official forms used by local and state election officials.

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law allowing New Yorkers to use COVID-19 as an official excuse to vote remotely.

The words “New York State Voter Assistance Program” appear at the top of a piece of paper that accompanies the application alongside a letter that discloses the state’s Democratic Committee as the funder. fund and source of effort in a relatively small font.

“The New York State Democrats sent and paid for a courier that was designed to look like an official New York State document and it was called the Voter Assistance Program of New York State,” Langworthy said Monday.

State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Absentee voting has increased dramatically since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with Hochul signing legislation in January allowing New Yorkers to use COVID-19 as an official excuse until the end of the year.

Recent election cycles have shown that the practice tends to benefit Democrats more than Republicans, especially following then-President Donald Trump’s attacks on the practice in the run-up to his election defeat. of 2020.

Absentee voting could give New York Democrats a similar advantage in the 2022 gubernatorial race, with polls released in recent days showing Zeldin as close as 6 points and up 15 points behind Hochulwhich has a big fundraising advantage against Zeldin.

The Long Island Republican was a staunch Trump supporter during his tenure, with Democrats now leveraging his votes against certifying the 2020 results in states like Pennsylvania against him, as well as a failed effort to get Zeldin on the independent party line for the governor despite the photocopied signatures of voters.

With the governor now ending the official COVID-19 state of emergency, Republicans are calling on his party to stop pushing for mail-in voting despite the political benefits for Democrats and the continued risk of infection, though relatively low, at the ballot box.

“It’s the dirty use of a loophole in election law and trying to do it in the name of COVID and public health, I think, is wrong,” Langworthy said.

Week 2 of college football had a bit of everything: blowouts, highly competitive deals, and top-25 matchups.

Among afternoon action, the Texas A&M Aggies were shocked by the Appalachian State Mountaineers, the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes rolled against the Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Marshall Thundering Herd upset the No. 8 Our Lady Fighting Irish at South Bend.

Although the college football season is just getting started, the trolling is already halfway through the season. The teams’ social media accounts didn’t hold back after the wins, using creative graphics to celebrate – and get under their opponents’ shoes.

Here’s a look at some of the top social media trolls from Week 2:

The Thundering Herd defeated the Fighting Irish largely on their defence. Marshall forced Notre Dame into three turnovers, including two in the fourth quarter. This is the second time the Thundering Herd have knocked out an AP top-10 team; the last time was in 2006 against then-No. 6 Kansas State Wildcats.

Marshall updated his college football bucket list after the game.

The Mountaineers have a history of knocking out top-10 teams in the AP, and they did it again on Saturday. Appalachian State forced two turnovers against Texas A&M and held the team to within 200 total offensive yards. The Mountaineers join Marshall as the second Sun Belt Conference team to defeat an AP top-10 team on Saturday.

App State hosted (or farewell) Texas for the Aggies after the game.

Heading into Saturday’s game, Nebraska was 214-0 in scoring at least 35 points at Memorial Stadium.

That record now stands at 214-1.

Georgia Southern’s offense had 642 total yards and senior quarterback Kyle Vantrease was responsible for 409 of them. Vantrease also scored the touchdown that helped Georgia Southern defeat Nebraska.

The Trojans didn’t score a single touchdown in the second half, but you wouldn’t know that by looking at the final score. Junior transfer wide receiver Jordan Addison made his Pac-12 debut with a strong performance, recording seven catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

Quarterback Caleb Williams also filled the stat sheet with 341 yards and four touchdowns as USC took the win.

In the fourth quarter, Xavier Hutchinson capped off a 99-yard drive by scoring Iowa State’s only touchdown of the game. That proved to be the deciding factor as the Hawkeyes had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Aaron Blom’s 48-yard field goal attempt was wide left.

Iowa State overcame three turnovers to claim its first road victory in the national rivalry since 2014.

The Razorbacks’ running game led them to victory over the Gamecocks, as Raheim Sanders rushed for a career-high 156 yards with two touchdowns. Quarterback KJ Jefferson added his own scores – one in the air and one on the ground.

Sanders wears number 5, the same number former Arkansas running back Darren McFadden wore from 2005 to 2007. The Razorbacks saw parallels between Sanders’ efforts on Saturday and McFadden’s historic performance in 2007 against the Gamecocks, where he rushed for an SEC-record 323 yards, so they took to Twitter to show the similarities. Look away, South Carolina fans.

Blue Devils running backs Jordan Waters and Jaylen Coleman had 174 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help their team beat the Wildcats on Saturday. Duke quarterback Riley Leonard threw for 240 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

The Blue Devils remembered play picks from ESPN’s College GameDay team, where no one picked them to win. Duke’s Twitter account therefore released the receipts after the victory.

The Buckeyes made it easier for the Red Wolves behind 351 yards and four touchdowns from quarterback CJ Stroud. Marvin Harrison Jr. also had a big day, catching seven passes for 184 yards and three scores. According to ESPN Stats and Information research, he joins Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2022 Rose Bowl) as the only Ohio State players since 2004 with 150 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.

After the game, Brutus, Ohio State’s mascot, had the perfect Twitter post to sum up Arkansas State’s afternoon.

Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei threw for 231 yards, two touchdowns and an interception en route to a convincing win over the Paladins. Running back Will Shipley recorded 68 yards rushing and two touchdowns that day, and Beaux Collins led his team with four catches, 57 yards and a score.

Clemson’s Twitter account posted a graph showing the damage done to his opponent after the game.

TEAM NEWS

United fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of new signing Antony, whose arrival was announced on Thursday’s transfer deadline day. The former Ajax striker is available and will no doubt push his debut in front of his new fans.

Anthony Martial is set to miss the clash against the North London side with an Achilles problem which has also kept him out of Leicester and Southampton games. Victor Lindelof returned to training ahead of the Leicester game, but did not play at the King Power Stadium. The Swede was part of our matchday squad in the Midlands and could be back on Sunday.

Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were both absent from the group that traveled on Thursday due to minor complaints, as Ten Hag revealed after the game. It is unclear at this stage whether they will be fit to return this weekend.

As for our visitors, summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko has missed Arsenal’s last two games with a knee injury and remains a doubt.

Midfielders Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Reiss Nelson are unavailable, while captain Martin Odegaard will be assessed after leaving Villa’s game early, as will goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale who was obviously uncomfortable on Wednesday night , but ended the match.
